This Sleek Electric Kettle Is One of My Favorite New Appliances
Cosori's electric kettle has simplified my morning tea routine—and it's a steal, too.
When I made my own tea in the past, I'd typically heat a mug of water in the microwave, add in a teabag, and call it a day. We have a stovetop kettle, but the small opening makes it hard to clean—not to mention, it doesn’t whistle, so it's all too easy to step away for a second and come back to find half the water has evaporated. Thus, the single mug approach seemed like a more economical (and certainly less frustrating) method.
That all changed when I got my hands on a Cosori electric kettle. I’d seen it recommended on our own site before, and it has over 2,000 five-star reviews on Amazon. The sleek, streamlined glass design didn't hurt either. So I caved and ordered one for Christmas. Reader, it definitely lives up to the hype.
Here’s how it works: you plug the kettle in, press a button, and wait. A blue LED light immediately turns on to let you know the water is heating up, and as it grows hotter, you can hear bubbling, too. Once it reaches a boil, the kettle automatically shuts off within 30 seconds, so you'll know exactly when your water is ready. The whole process takes about five minutes. And with a generous 1.7-liter capacity, you'll have enough for several cups at once.
Other helpful features include a wide mouth for easy cleaning, scratch- and scuff-resistant glass, and an additional safety measure that shuts the kettle off if no water is detected. Add in the fact that the kettle becomes cordless once you take it off the base, and it's well worth the under $40 price tag. You don't have to use it for just tea, either—we've found it’s helpful for making coffee, and the Amazon description also says you can use it to prepare pasta and oatmeal. (We haven’t tried that, so attempt at your own discretion.)
I’m not saying there isn't a time and place for your classic stovetop kettle, but if you’re in the market for function and style, Cosori's kettle makes a great addition to your kitchen.
