If you’re THC-curious but not a weed person, these “social tonics” from Cann are both delicious and gentle.

I am, historically, not a weed person. My encounters with weed, mostly in college, only led to two results: falling asleep in a movie theater as the previews started rolling and becoming extremely convinced that everyone in the room hated me for mysterious reasons. But since the legalization of marijuana in New York last month, I've been curious about dabbling in low-dose THC. The weed world is very different now than when I was in college 15 years ago, and there are more dosing options in between "doesn't do anything" and "ruins your entire weekend."

So when the beverage company Cann offered to send me some of their low-dose THC "social tonics, I said yes. I was in search of an experience that feels pleasant and mildly floaty, but doesn't cause a full-on panic attack because I remembered that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles exist. Cann, I'm happy to say, is right on that level. The mini-cans each have 2 mg of THC and 4 mg of CBD, a microdose amount, perfect if you're very sensitive to the stuff or want to have a pretty accurate handle on how much you're ingesting.

Plus, most importantly, these drinks are delicious. They're basically a fancy flavored seltzer, done well. The flavors include Blood Orange Cardamom, Lemon Lavender, and, my favorite, Grapefruit Rosemary. I would happily drink a THC-less version of any of them. As they are, they're a lovely alternative to the beer or glass of wine I would pour myself around happy hour every day. It's not enough to be noticeably affected by the THC (at least for me, bodies are different) but just for the death grip of my anxiety to loosen slightly on my brain. And, of course, you can have more than one if you're so inclined.

Right now they're available in states where recreational marijuana is legal. A pack of 30 7.5-ounce cans will run you $85, or you can grab 6 for $18. For those interested in a bit of a stronger (but still mild) dose, there are also the "hi boy" cans, which are 12 ounces and 5 mg of THC, $20 for a pack of 4. If you're wary of smoking or vaping, but still THC-curious, these are the entry points you're looking for.
