Jamaican Rum Punch

This early drink was described by George J. Kappeler, the author of "Modern American Drinks" in 1895.

Ingredients

  • Ice

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • Water

  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

  • 1 1/2 ounces Jamaican rum

  • 1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey

  • Fruit, for garnish (optional)

Directions

  1. Fill a mixing glass half-full of fine ice, add 1 tablespoon of fine sugar, a little water, the juice of half a lemon, one jigger of Jamaican rum, and one jigger of Irish whiskey; mix well, strain into a fancy bar-glass, trim with fruit, or leave on ice, and serve with straws.
