After 38 years, the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen is changing scenery. While the coronavirus pandemic prevented our all-star roster of chefs, sommeliers, and culinary talent from gathering in sunny Aspen this June, the world’s premier culinary event has transformed into the Food & Wine Classic at Home, which will take place online on Thursday, July 23, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. EDT.

Hosted by F&W Culinary Director at Large Justin Chapple, the two-hour fundraising event will feature cooking demos, interactive wine tastings, and seminars with some of our favorite food and beverage stars, including Stephanie Izard, Jacques Pépin, JJ Johnson, Kwame Onwuachi, Martha Stewart, Ayesha Curry, Garrett Oliver, Anthony Giglio, and our own Ray Isle, who’s hosting a demo on perfect pizza wines.

The event is fundraising for the Jacques Pépin Foundation, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Southern Smoke Foundation, Wholesome Wave, and World Central Kitchen, and will collect donations on the Classic Facebook page. In partnership with KitchenAid, Le Creuset, Lexus, and S.Pellegrino, the Food & Wine Classic at Home will be held on this page, where attendees can get recipes and tasting notes so they can participate from home. Attendees can go here to purchase wines up until July 16 to ship for the at-home tastings.

“The Food & Wine Classic in Aspen is always a highly anticipated event bringing together chefs, restaurateurs, winemakers, sommeliers, and food lovers from all over,” said Hunter Lewis, Editor in Chief of Food & Wine. “Though we’ve missed being there this June, I’m delighted that we’re able to offer this fun and entertaining experience with top talent that also supports relief efforts at a time when there is so much need across the restaurant industry and in areas of social justice.”

While we’ll miss gathering together on Aspen Mountain—and even reeling from the altitude sickness—we’re thrilled to bring the event to even more people around the world.
