You know that thing where you bite into a burger and then it's actually cake? Yeah, neither do we, but thanks Laura Loukaides' cake sculptures, it's a very real possibility. Loukaides uses her incredible cake art skills to play tricks on all of us, making cakes that look like other foods. Sure, sometimes she makes troublingly cute puppy cakes, but her true evil genius comes through when she makes a cake that looks exactly like, say, a pizza, and then it's not pizza at all.
Loukaides has made cakes of all kinds of foods, from entrees to breakfast foods to other sweets. She's made a cake-ified Starbucks latte with a cake-ified doughnut and a cake-ified chocolate chip cookie on the side. She's created a cake version of a double bacon cheeseburger with fries on the side. For any cake fans in England, she's made a fish & chips cake. A couple years ago, she made a strawberries and cream cake with a floating pitcher that seems physically impossible. She even created a massive, many-layered cake that includes cake versions of hot dogs, corn on the cob, spare ribs, sub sandwiches, baked beans, eclairs, jelly doughnuts, pancakes with syrup, meringues, berries, a cupcake, and more, dubbed "The Big Eater".
And for the truly ambitious, Loukaides also offers tutorials so you can make deceptive cakes yourself. You can learn how to make the Fish & Chips cake, a doughnut cake, and more. To keep up with Loukaides' many magnificent creations, you can follow her on Instagram.
