Grilled cheese and tacos both have top spots on list of perfect comfort foods, but we were not prepared for the beauty that occurs when they are combined.

Dan Whalen of The Food in my Beard, a site devoted to comfort food twists and mash-ups, just created a grilled cheese and taco food baby. Let’s break it down

The ‘bread’: The taco shell is made out of a sliced loaf of Italian bread rather than a traditional taco shell. Whalen uses different sized pieces of bread for his grilled cheese foundation to make it more fold-friendly. When he presses the grilled cheese on the grill, it flattens the bread into a more taco-like form.

The filling: Here, everything becomes more familiar. Whalen’s taco involved a traditional Tex-Mex combination of ground beef, salsa, cheese, and sour cream. However, this can easily work with any of your favorite fillings.
