Never has the fall of humanity looked so adorable! Jessica Clark-Bojin, the pastry chef behind The Pies Are Awesome, teaches us how to make a weirdly cute pie-ified Cthulhu in this tutorial. With a bit of strawberry, a couple chocolate balls, some pastry dough, some filling, and serious knife skills, you can make your own little creature from R'lyeh.
So what exactly is a Cthulhu? Cthulhu is a tentacled creature from the horror stories of H.P. Lovecraft. It's the high priest of a race of aliens who plan to wipe out humanity. You may remember the creature from those South Park episodes about it or that one episode of Billy and Mandy.
To make this little doomsday monster, you carve the body parts out of strawberry. That's two wings, four tentacles, and a tentacled face. Then you carve eye holes out of the face and put chocolate ball eyeballs in. Bake a little pie or tart using a recipe of your choosing. (Or just buy one. That's cool too.) Assemble the pieces on top, and your Cthulhu is good to go wreak havoc on the human race.
This little Cthulhu isn't the only awesome horror story pie that Jessica Clark-Bojin has created. Clark-Bojin's made pies paying tribute to grotesque art nouveau illustrator Aubrey Beardsley, to the creature from the movie Predator, to Halloween slasher movies, and so much more. If horror isn't really your thing, you can also check out her cuter pies, which include this friendly Pie-kachu, a BB-8 apple pie, and an impressive recreation of Rapunzel a la Tangled.
