We thought the clear, gelatinous cake craze was finally over. We were wrong. The translucent agar "raindrop cake" has been reincarnated, this time as a cat, and it's getting a ton of attention in Japan, where anything kitty-shaped can put social media into a tizzy, Twitter user @mithiruka shared an image of a feline form of the dessert, and it's garnered tens of thousands of likes and reposts.
So, yeah. It’s a jelly cat. And now that I’ve said that, I can’t stop singing it to the tune of “Smelly Cat” from Friends.
Raindrop cake mania first swept the nation, or at least the Internet, earlier in the year when Brooklyn's Smorgasburg started selling them stateside on the regular. Because it's basically Jell-O, the best part about these clear confections is that once you've mastered the basic recipe, you can mold them into whatever shape you have a handy.
