Two wrongs don’t make a right… but there’s nothing that says the results can’t be delicious. Or at least garner attention for your fast food chain.
Burger King has just unveiled a new product called “Mac n’ Cheetos.” Though deep-fried macaroni and cheese bites are certainly nothing new, this recently-added menu item takes the additional incredulous step of encrusting the already gluttonous carb-on-carb food with Cheetos-flavored breading. In fact, the only thing about this new snack… or appetizer… or side… that isn’t over-the-top is its name: Mac n’ Cheetos actually rolls right off the tongue. It’s like someone at Cheetos came up with the name first and then started pitching it to fast food restaurants from there.
According to Bloomberg, the five-stick, 310-calorie snack food-hybrid will only be available for about eight weeks (or while supplies last) and will cost just $2.49 – meaning that though it ain’t easy being cheesy, it is surprisingly affordable.
“We’re partnering up with one of Americans’ favorite brands,” Alex Macedo, president of North America at Burger King, was quoted as saying. But is Cheetos one of Americans’ favorite brands? When Taco Bell started selling Doritos Locos Tacos; that was a partnership with one of Americans’ favorite brands. Cheetos is more the brand of Americans who don’t know what’s appropriate to bring to a party or who aren’t good at learning from past mistakes.
That said, I feel like I’d give Mac n’ Cheetos a try. Like a car crash, this bizarre mashup is just too intense to ignore. Except unlike a car crash, this collision is between two guilty pleasures – and the only severe injury afterwards is to your dignity.
