Childhood memories of slurping down an Orange Julius inspired Jay Carr to create an adult version of the treat for his Providence, Rhode Island bar, The Eddy. Creamy, sweet and acidic ingredients come together to create a cocktail that tastes surprisingly similar to the creamsicle-like drink. The only thing missing is the straw. But if you want to use one to drink it, we won’t hold it against you.

Orange Julius Caesar

Makes 1 drink

Recipe by Jay Carr, The Eddy, Providence.

  • 1 1/2 oz. Denizen white rum
  • 3/4 oz. lime juice
  • 1/2 oz. Bols yogurt liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. vanilla syrup (see below)
  • 5-6 drops Bittermans orange cream citrate
  • Orange peel

In a shaker with ice, combine rum, lime juice, yogurt liqueur, vanilla syrup and orange cream citrate. Shake well and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with an orange peel.

NOTE: Vanilla syrup can be made in advance using the following method. Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add 1 whole vanilla bean and 1 1/2 cups sugar. Simmer and stir until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and cool completely before using.
