Emiko Davies Instagram Location: Tuscany, Italy Emiko is an Australian/Japanese food writer and author of six cookbooks, based in Tuscany, Italy, where she runs a cooking school and wine bar with her sommelier husband. Experience I have lived in countries other than my own for more than half of my life; I grew up in China and went to university in the US. I have lived in Florence, Italy for 18 years and had an active regional Italian food blog since 2010. I have held recipe columns for Food52 (Regional Italian recipes) and Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera ("Cucina Letteraria") and worked as a restaurant critic in Australia for many years, contributing to the most important restaurant guides. I published my first cookbook, Florentine: The True Cuisine of Florence, in 2016 with Hardie Grant Books. Other regional Italian cookbooks followed, Acquacotta (2017), Tortellini at Midnight (2019), Torta della Nonna (2020), Cinnamon and Salt (2021), the latter on the cicchetti culture of Venice. In 2023 Gohan: Memories and Stories from my Japanese Kitchen, comes out published by Smith Street Books. Education I gained my Bachelor of Fine Art at Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in Printmaking. It was here that I became interested in photography and etching and decided to spend a semester in Florence, which brought me to deciding to move here in 2005. I studied art restoration at Palazzo Spinelli in Florence and gained a two year diploma in the conservation and restoration of books and works on paper before focussing on food writing as a career.
