To anyone who ever told you drinking beer would get you nowhere in life, here’s your chance to prove them wrong: The Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History recently announced it’s looking to hire a historian/scholar to spearhead its American Brewing History Initiative – and is offering up the relatively handsome sum of $64,650 plus benefits to the right candidate. Today’s your lucky day, history professors that were unable to secure university tenure because of your drinking habits!

Granted, unlike the paid beer internship that bar chain World of Beer made headlines with earlier this year, this gig requires a lot more than traveling the country and Instagramming your drinking. “We have a very active food history program here at the museum and for many years we've been hoping to do some research, documentation and collection around brewing history in the same way we've done work on winemaking and the changes in winemaking since prohibition,” Paula Johnson, curator of the NMAH’s Division of Work and Industry, told Washington, DC’s WJLA.

Along those lines, the job description, which is posted publicly, sounds like a lot of serious business, even before building in time for the occasional pint. Whoever lands the three-year appointment will be expected to “conduct archival and field research for a new initiative on American brewing history, with special emphasis on the craft industry.” Applicants should “have proven experience in scholarly research, organizing and conducting oral history interviews, writing for both scholarly and general audiences, and knowledge of material culture and archival materials.” Candidates must also be able “to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public” – probably even after you’ve had a few beers.

Still, if you have “an advanced degree in American business, brewing, food, cultural, or similar specialization within history” and are willing to travel, apply before the August 10 deadline. Sadly, the number of Untappd check-ins you have doesn’t appear to be factored into the final decision. Are you saying that “Cerveza Matador” badge I worked so hard to earn is worth noting?!
