Ordering This Cocktail Can Help Fight Breast Cancer
Let us introduce you to the Pink Lady.
You may not be acquainted with the Pink Lady. The drink, a variation on the classic White Lady made with gin, lemon juice, Cointreau and egg white, gets unfairly maligned for its pink color. While its hue (which it gets from a few dashes of grenadine) might suggest a too-sweet Cosmopolitan or White Zinfandel, the Pink Lady is a perfectly balanced cocktail that's wonderfully tart and floral. And now there's a great excuse to try one: Throughout October, restaurants across the country will be serving variations on the Pink Lady in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with proceeds from the cocktails going to breast cancer charities.
Here, a few of the participating restaurants and their takes on the classic cocktail.
RPM Italian; Chicago
The trendy, celeb-frequented restaurant is serving the Clover Club, a variation on the Pink Lady made with raspberry syrup in place of grenadine.
Bodega Negra; New York City
For a global take on the cocktail, Bodega Negra is offering the Dama de Rosa made with Aperol, velvet falernum, ruby red grapefruit and Singani, a Bolivian brandy made from Muscat of Alexandria grapes.
LAVO Italian Restaurant; Las Vegas
The restaurant’s Rose Sangria is made with Hennessy VS, vanilla liqueur, triple sec, simple syrup, Angostura bitters and lemon juice. Admittedly, this is a loose take on the Pink Lady—but it’s still for a good cause, so we won’t be nit-picky.
ART Restaurant; Seattle
The Four Seasons Hotel restaurant is offering the Lusty Pink Lady, which mixes local gin with sparkling wine and cranberry juice. It’s served on a large ice sphere.
