In just over a year, I discovered and got over hard seltzers. I was admittedly late to the game, trying my first White Claw at the tail end of 2019, and I filled my 2020 pandemic summer with a steady rotation of whatever new hard seltzer hit shelves that week. And though I'll always love a good poolside seltzer (I mean, it is water, technically), I'm heading into this summer ready for a change of both pace and palate, which I found in JuneShine Hard Kombucha.

Ironically enough, I tried the hard kombucha that touts itself as tasting "like summer" during the terrible snowstorms in Austin this past winter, picking up a six-pack of the Blood Orange Mint Kombucha in an empty-shelved Whole Foods. Right on the front of JuneShine's very aesthetically pleasing cans, you can see it's both probiotic and gluten-free. In other words, it's about as "healthy" as an alcoholic beverage can be—and since I tend to react to gluten and love regular ol' kombucha, I figured it would be a good fit.

From the first sip, I was hooked on the 6% ABV brew. The taste was sweet, but not too sweet, and its flavor was so smooth and refreshing. I looked online after finishing my first can and discovered an array of summer-ready flavors, including Acai Berry and Iced Tea Lemonade, which could all be shipped to my door since the San Diego-based company recently launched nationwide shipping.

In the months since, I've sipped on all of JuneShine's flavors—except for its most recent launch, Chili Mango—and whatever I try becomes my new favorite. Perhaps the best part about it is that I can have a few cans without waking up to a hangover the next day. I don't know if it's the lack of artificial flavors or heavily processed syrups, but whatever it is, I'm here for it.

If you're curious about JuneShine but don't know where to start, there's a sampler pack of 24 cans, so you can give the most popular flavors a shot. And if you turn out to love them as much as I do, you can subscribe to get your favorites on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis, saving 10 percent on each order in the process.

My pandemic summer of seltzers was a strange one that I will never forget, but this year, it's time for a refresh with something on the sweeter side. I'm thankful to have found JuneShine just in time. Below, check out every flavor of the hard kombucha I can't stop talking about.
