We’re not big on novelty beers around here. For example, we were once forced to drink an entire bottle of pizza beer and would not recommend it to anyone. It tasted like a pizza burp. However, one kitschy combination last year worked out surprisingly well: Ben & Jerry’s collaboration with New Belgium Brewing on a salted caramel brownie ale. And now the major players are back for a second round of ice cream beer, although this time the beer doesn't sound like as natural a flavor combination. The two socially conscious companies are combining to make a chocolate chip cookie dough ale. We are fans of cookies and ice cream and beer, but a beer with notes of uncooked dessert could be a dangerous proposition. That said, they pulled off a nice, if sweet, beer last year and we wouldn’t put it past them to come up with another successful way to drink dessert this time around.

Also, like they did last time, the brewery and the ice cream maker will be donating the proceeds from the project to a good cause. $50,000 will be donated to Protect Our Winters, a non-profit focused on climate change.

While there is not much information on what this beer will actually taste like—the only comment coming from New Belgium Ben & Jerry's is that "it will be a chocolate chip cookie dough ale"—we can tell you that you’ll be able to pick up a six-pack this fall. The weather might be getting a little cool at that point for a beer float, but we’ll probably tough it out just the same.
