At a birthday celebration this past weekend at the Hotel Gansevoort in Manhattan, I had a fun cocktail made with Grey Goose La Poire vodka. It's apparently made with the essence of Anjou pears. It's one of the first pear vodkas on the U.S. market and just launched this month. I was surprised by how much I liked it. I feel like pear-flavored things often taste like pear Jelly Belly beans, but this was smooth and delicate. The recipe was simple: pear vodka, fresh lime juice and a hit of simple syrup. The bartenders put a hard, crunchy slice of Asian pear in the drink too, which was the kicker. Worth checking out.
