Polar Vortex, the Ice Cream
The International Culinary Center proves that it's really, really cold outside.
On scorching summer days (remember those?), you'll sometimes hear people remark that it's hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. But there's no culinary adage for ultra-cold winter days. This morning, the intrepid director of pastry arts at New York's International Culinary Center may have coined one. Jansen Chan stood outside in Soho and successfully churned a batch of ice cream in eight minutes with help from the freezing polar vortex. (Watch the video above.) So here it is cliché-loving weather forecasters: it's cold enough to freeze ice cream on the street. This introduces an even more exciting opportunity.
