Sorry America, You Can't Get Those 60 Packs of Coors
As if you needed any more proof that not everything you read on the Internet is true, the whole state of Wisconsin just got a supersized wakeup call after rumors that Coors Light was about to release a 60-pack of cans exclusively for the Badger State were deemed untrue.
The story was apparently in part spread by the unfortunately named website College Peep Show, who wrote, “MillerCoors has just announced the Wisconsin Pak, which will be on store shelves in Wisconsin only beginning August 1, 2016,” and posted two photos of the massive 60-can packs of beer seen in the wild like this one.
Perhaps out of jealously, the more reputable publication City Pages, based out of the Twin Cities in neighboring Minnesota, decided to vet this proclamation and quickly found that, no, Wisconsin isn’t getting a 60-pack of Coors Light anytime in the near future. “The post making its way around social media is completely made up,” MillerCoors head of media relations Jonathan Stern told the Minneapolis paper. “We regret any confusion it may have caused.” I don’t think “confusion” was necessarily the word he was looking for; I think “eye-rolling” may have been more appropriate.
So we’ve gotten to the bottom of this mystery: Don’t believe anything you read on social media…unless it’s about Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. People never make up stuff about those two.
But wait! You forgot one thing… What about those photos of the 60-packs? I saw one sitting in a store with my own eyes! A woman was holding one with a giant smile! Were they Photoshopped? What gives?
Well, if you look more closely at what that woman is holding, it really is Coors Light—60 “canettes ventilees” worth. Turns out 60-packs of Coors Light are legit in the French-speaking Canadian province of Quebec. Wow, not only do we need to accept that Wisconsin is not getting 60-packs of beer, we also have to consider that people in Canada might be cooler than us. At least we'll always have the 99-pack.
