Experience

Simon J. Woolf has been passionate about wine for more than two decades, first drinking it, then studying and eventually writing about it. Having previously worked as a musician, sound engineer, IT consultant, and alternative currency designer, wine became his main focus when he founded The Morning Claret in 2011, a site devoted to natural, organic, biodynamic, and artisan wine. Woolf specializes in writing about the wines of Italy, Austria, and Eastern Europe. He is particularly obsessed with orange wine, the subject of his first book Amber Revolution (2018), which The New York Times hailed as one of the year’s top five wine books. He went on to publish The Wine Lover’s Bucket List (2020) and Foot Trodden: Portugal and the Wines That Time Forgot (2021).
