M. Carrie Allan began writing about cocktails and spirits for The Washington Post in 2013. In addition to winning awards for her essays and column in The Washington Post, she was a finalist for the IACP award for her article “Dangerous Drinks and How to Spot Them” for Imbibe Magazine in 2018. Allan’s work has appeared in local, national, and international media outlets such as SFGate, Boston.com, MSN, National Post, Australian Financial Review, Vancouver Sun, and PUNCH. When she is not freelance writing about cocktails and spirits, Allan works her long-time “day job” at The Humane Society of the United States. She has been the Senior Vice President of Communications and Brand since 2020.

Education

Allan attended Hollins University and studied English and modern history at the University of Oxford. She graduated from Hollins University with a bachelor of arts in English, history, and film, as well as a master of arts in English and writing.
