Ina Garten

This creamy, soul-warming soup from the legendary Ina Garten's cookbook, Modern Comfort Food, captures everything there is to love about chicken pot pie. Plenty of aromatic vegetables, a rich, silky broth spiked with tarragon and cream sherry, and plenty of tender chicken (or leftover Thanksgiving turkey) deliver pure comfort in every spoonful. The flaky, buttery puff pastry croutons (made from store-bought dough!) are an irresistible finishing touch.

This is a simple dish that Ina Garten makes for summer parties. The sauce can be made well in advance, and the fish grilled at the last minute. The recipe is also delicious served at room temperature.
One of Bobbi Brown's winter staples, this hearty lentil soup—from the Barefoot Contessa Cookbook—gets its robust flavor from small, green French lentils. Also called Le Puy lentils, they are high in soluble fiber, a cholesterol fighter, and less starchy than common brown lentils.
