Cheryl Day

Cheryl Day is a baker and an acclaimed author that owns Back in the Day Bakery. Cheryl also co-founded Southern Restaurants for Racial Justice, a group of restaurants committed to racial justice and co-authored bestselling cookbooks. She is a James Beard Award semifinalist for Outstanding Baker in 2015.


Cheryl Day opened Back in the Day Bakery in Savannah, Georgia, in 2002. The baker and small business owner published The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook in 2012; Back in the Day Baking: More than 200 Down-Home Recipes from the Best Little Bakery in the South in 2015; The Artisanal Kitchen: Baking for Breakfast: 33 Muffin, Biscuit, Egg, and Other Sweet and Savory Dishes for a Special Morning Meal in 2018; Cheryl Day's Treasury of Southern Baking in 2021, which were co-written with her husband Griff Day. The latest won a 2022 IACP Cookbook Award.
