Redbird in downtown L.A. Makes a perfect day-drinking spot. Bar director Tobin Shea serves a special drink menu at lunch that focuses on low-ABV cocktails. In short, he's found a way to allow guests to have two or even three cocktails "and still be functional the rest of the day." Watch to find out more about his inspiration for the Monterey Sour (gin, lemon, simple syrup, grapefruit bitters, Sauvignon Blanc) and the Bamboo Swizzle (amontillado sherry, French vermouth, lemon, angostura bitters, orange).—L.A.'s Maria Nguyen of The Art of Plating (@theartofplating) and F&W's Around the World Network

[MUSIC] My name is Holton Shea, I am the lead
bartender at the Red Bird here in Los Angeles, California
[MUSIC] The Monterey Sour, that is part cocktail and part
wine and it's a very light and refreshing drink to
where when you're drinking it you're like there's Doesn't even
taste like a cocktail. For some reason lemonade shows up
in all these cocktail books from the 1800s all the
way into the 1930s, there's always like 12 different recipes
for lemonade. To make this lemonade better I add a
little sherry, so that's kinda where I put the idea
together of doing the Bamboo Squizzle. Having the sherry and
the components of lemonade together in a cocktail. When we
came out with our lunch menu it's always a challenge
to have cocktails there that you could have two or
maybe even three at lunchtime and still be functional at
work the rest of the day.
