First off, when you're looking at any wine list, don't hesitate to ask for help, and don't think that means giving up control of your budget. All you need to do is have the wine list, point to a price that you're comfortable with, and let the [UNKNOWN] know that that's the kind of wine you're looking for this evening. If you already know that different people at the table are having fish and meat, great let them know. But also come telling them what you like. Normally we would swirl and taste the wine. But sommeliers, and wine makers, and chefs in restauranteurs know that if the wine smells good, it is good. You don't even need to taste it.
