How to Make a Latte Without Espresso or Dairy

This is not a latte. Okay? Yes, it looks like a latte. Yes, it drinks like a latte. Still, trust us when we tell you it is not a latte.

So what is it? It’s a frothy, satisfying beverage that you can make without any dairy products and without an espresso machine. We originally developed the recipe with Ben Kaminsky, a crucial expert behind our Coffee class. But whether or not you like to nerd out on the java, we think you’ll appreciate this killer trick. It couldn’t be easier: Grab some brewed coffee—whatever brewed coffee you like—a little bit of xanthan gum, and a blender. Combine the two ingredients, give ’em a whirl, and there it is: the tasty, dairy-free treat that will wow guests at your next brunch or baby shower.

[MUSIC] This is not a latte, this is a really amazing trick to turn any drip coffee that you're already making into a beautiful latte-esque experience. It's going to be really velvety and really gorgeous. Just like a latte except you don't need an espresso machine and you don't need any milk. So it's totally dairy free. Let me show you how to do it. All you need is a blender, the coffee and a little bit of xanthan gum. Take your favorite coffee. Brew it how you normally do, whether it's french press, chemex, or normal drip machine. All you're doing is taking that normal drip coffee, putting it in a blender, and you're adding a little bit of xanthan to it. Xanthan gum is a really common ingredient. What it's really good at is Thickening and suspending particles, so if you make a dressing, all the garlic doesn't float to the bottom, the oil doesn't float to the top. It stabilizes it. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna add it into the coffee. We wanna add about .1%, so it's about 1 gram per liter. And we're gonna blend it. Gonna ramp it up slowly. It gonna hold on to all these beautiful air bubbles and give it this really nice velvety texture. Just like a latte. Mmm. Mmm it's hot. Hi Jeff.>>>Hi So I didn't add anything.
