Hi, I'm Suzanne Griswold with Chicks with Knives. Today you
will make your very own vanilla extract. All you need
are two simple ingredients and just very little equipment. You'll
need one ounce of vanilla beans. That's approximately seven vanilla
beans. And also need one cup of 80 proof alcohol.
We prefer to use a vodka. Start out by splitting
all your vanilla pods. You want to go ahead and
flatten out your vanilla. Start at one end and just
with your paring knife go all the way through the
pod. Flip my knife over so I don't cut through
the bean and I'm going to scrap down the length
of the bean exposing all that wonderful caviar. And your
going to give it a very, very good shake so
after a minimum of eight weeks. All the way up
to six months. Your extract is ready to be used.
