Why smell wine? The reason you smell wine is because a huge part of all that flavor that you get when you taste wine actually comes through your nose. That's why smelling wine, taking a big sniff contributes so much to what you get out of wine. This wine, for instance, a Pinot Noir from California, to me this smells like It kind of reminds me of ripe black cherries and maybe a little bit of pepper. And some toasty oats from the oak barrels that it was aged in. And that's why you smell wine. So the next time you pour yourself a glass of wine before you take that sip take a big sniff.
