I used 4 1/2 pounds of sweet potatoes, cut the butter to 6 Tbsp. and used half in the potatoes and half in the topping.  I also cut the sugar to 2/3 cup, half in the potatoes and half in the topping.  It was excellent and devoured quickly.

Easy and excellent.  I chopped the chorizo in a mini food processor.
