Wheeler Opera House
Still standing after 100-plus years, two fires, and three renovations, the Wheeler is an Aspen institution that screens movies and hosts theater and music, from Burt Bacharach to Art Garfunkel. When it opened in 1889, Vaudeville, minstrel burlesque, and operatic performances were on its roster, until a series of fires in 1912 all but destroyed the place. Yet despite its many changes, the Wheeler's still imbued with a Victorian grandeur that elevates any performance.
