Sam Mogannam, a trained chef, and his brother Raphael took over this Mission District market from their parents more than a decade ago and transformed it from a neighborhood convenience store into a cult grocery. In addition to being one of the first markets in the country to grow some of its own organic produce, Bi-Rite offers fantastic prepared foods, like these F&W staff-favorite Sicilian beef meatballs, made with meat from local farms like Five Dot Ranch, Marin Sun Farms and BN Ranch.
