F&W editors aren’t alone in their enthusiasm for chef-owner Joey Campanaro’s Gravy Meatball Sliders on fresh roasted garlic buns; the West Village restaurant sells nearly 1,000 of them a week. The juicy beef-pork-veal-pecorino balls, inspired by Campanaro’s Grandma Rosie, are so popular that there’s even a section devoted to them on the restaurant’s website. Like his nonna, Campanaro tightly rolls each meatball then pan-fries them and simmers them in a terrific fennel-seed-flecked tomato sauce.
