Divine Japanese food in sophisticated yet informal surroundings set within a tranquil Knightsbridge lane are what Zuma is all about. As a twist on the izakaya (a bar that serves food), Zuma seats customers at the counter to watch chefs work in the open kitchen and around the traditional northern Japanese robata grill. The menu tempts with sushi and sashimi, black cod, and wagyu beef, plus innovative dishes including whole lobster tempura with spicy ponzu; seared miso-marinated foie gras with ume boshi (pickled fruit) compote; grilled asparagus with wafu sauce; and jumbo tiger prawns with yuzu pepper from the robata grill. An authentic menu and high prices combine to create a seriously exclusive atmosphere. Non-sake drinkers can sip signature cocktails like the Zumanuka (honey vodka, fresh pineapple and apple juices, and muddled basil).
Insider Tip: If you can’t choose from the extensive menu, go for the tasting menu with nine exquisitely selected dishes (and three desserts). If one person at the table orders this menu, it’s best if everyone does, as dishes are timed as carefully as they are prepared.
