Since 1869, Sostanza has been a quintessential Florentine trattoria. Its white-tiled walls are plastered with autographed photos of celebrities who have sat on the long wood benches and eaten the succulent <em>bistecca alla fiorentina</em> (T-bone porterhouse).

We loved: with white beans and roasted potatoes.

Insider tip: Don't be late for lunch: The kitchen stops serving at 2 p.m.
