Open since 1904, this pizza parlor with its worn linoleum and no-nonsense waitresses is one of the only reasons to venture across the Charles to East Boston. Make the trip, though, and you’ll see why the place has inspired cultish devotion for generations of locals: crispy-crusted Neapolitan-style pies with edges slightly blackened from a red-hot brick oven.

Tip: Stick with the simpler toppings—oregano-seasoned mozzarella and garlic, or mild sausage and mushrooms—that don’t overwhelm the crust’s smoky flavor.
