Even as he pursues projects outside of Boston, such as <strong>Alta Strada</strong> in Wellesley, Massachusetts, <a href="/bestnewchefs/?year=1996&chef=49B93804-0E35-47BE-BDA0619183A49A30">Michael Schlow (an F&W Best New Chef 1996)</a> has maintained his popular Financial District restaurant. In the convivial round dining room, Schlow serves inventive French dishes spiked with Asian ingredients like Sichuan peppercorns.

We loved: Tasmanian sweet crab with spicy cherry salad and (flying fish roe).
