Here's how Mario Batali describes the pizzeria and enoteca he and business partner Joseph Bastianich opened a block away from Washington Square Park: “Perfect for a thousand different uses: a light snack; a winey, long multicourse meal; a quick pizza lunch; or an espresso and a gelato.” The crisp-crusted pizzas, ranging from classic anchovy-topped Napoletana to the more creative pecorino-and-egg, are great, but there are also terrific antipasti and a long, mostly Italian wine list. The raucous dining rooms are popular with families; Batali eats there frequently with his kids.
We loved: House-made pepperoni pizza; olive oil gelato with sea salt.
Insider tip: Otto sells pints of its glorious gelato to go.
