The menu at Österreicher im MAK—the new home of Austria’s star chef, Helmut Österreicher, inside the MAK design museum—serves Wiener schnitzel alongside sesame tuna over couscous, and its garden tables are set under “sun squares,” an abstract system of canvas sails designed by Gerald Wurz.

When this much-anticipated <em>osteria</em> opened, it replaced adjoining Pizzeria Mozza as the hottest reservation in town. Star baker-chef Nancy Silverton is usually found behind the mozzarella bar, serving customers on the dozen stools surrounding her. Chef Matt Molina expertly prepares the rest of the brash Italian-country menu.

We loved: Ricotta-and-egg in brown butter; whole fish wrapped in grape leaves.
