Known as the Julia Child of the Caribbean, local celebrity chef Norma Shirley owns four restaurants, and this one, her first, still serves its famous nouvelle Jamaican cuisine. Among Norma’s signature dishes: fresh snapper grilled in a three-citrus caper sauce, and smoked pork loin marinated in ginger, teriyaki sauce, jerk spices, and Red Stripe beer. Tables sprawl across the outdoor terrace of one of Kingston’s most recognizable landmarks, Devon House, a 19th-century Victorian-era mansion built by George Stiebel, Jamaica’s first black millionaire.
Tip: After dinner, head across the courtyard to the tiny Devon House ice cream outlet for handmade scoops in tropical flavors like soursop and coconut.
