National Dining Rooms
Housed in the National Gallery, this elegant restaurant is renowned for serving culinary masterpieces as artful as the famous paintings displayed in the nearby galleries. Located in the Sainsbury Wing overlooking Trafalgar Square, the National Dining Rooms feature lofty ceilings, sleek mahogany furniture, floor-to-ceiling windows and a mesmerizing Paula Rego mural. Amidst this exquisite atmosphere, patrons savor selections from an ever-changing menu of modernized British dishes from head chef Simon Duff. Seasonal highlights may include light and flaky baked lemon sole, wood pigeon with herb mash and blackcurrant reduction and a superb dessert cheeseboard with apple chutney and biscuits.

From the From the May 2008 Food & Wine Go List
The Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery has raised the bar for British museum dining halls with a new waiter-service brasserie (there's also an espresso bar and self-service café). The food here represents the best of England, from Lancashire black pudding to a fine selection of pies, tarts and British artisanal cheeses.
We loved: Sardines with country bread; warm salt-beef sandwiches.
