Mother Chu's Taiwanese Gourmet
Not to be confused with the local vegetarian restaurant of the same name, this Chinatown restaurant serves traditional Taiwanese fare in a small, often crowded space at the end of the Dixon Street pedestrian mall. The dining room contains a handful of tables and Asian-inspired art prints, and additional seating is available outside beneath a pagoda-style eave hung with bright red lanterns. Prepared by hand in the open kitchen, the specialties here include pan-fried pork or beef dumplings, and yu tiao (fried bread sticks) wrapped in sticky rice or spring onion pancakes.
