Milk & Honey, Midtown West
A riff on the deliterias that dominate in Midtown, this rabbi-supervised Kosher deli is located not far from the Diamond District. Serving old-school lunch and breakfast fare, Milk and Honey sells everything from sandwiches and salads to pizzia, even sushi. Lunch options include the marinated roasted eggplant sandwich and tuna melt panini, while the breakfast menu has omelets, bagels, pastries, and Challah French toast. The breakfast cappucinos and espressos are especially popular, as are the pizzas, which are hand-tossed by rabbis who complete the hamotzi (Jewish bread prayer) before the pie descends.

Slade Rushing and Allison Vines-Rushing are Southerners who met in New Orleans, got a lot of attention in Manhattan and then returned to the South to open the short-lived Longbranch north of Lake Pontchartrain. Last fall, they launched MiLa, in the Central Business District, with an inventive menu that combines a Southern sensibility and New York sophistication.
We loved: Sherry-spiked turtle soup; pig cheeks and langoustines with collard greens and pepper vinegar.
