Kyoto native Akira Hirose honed his culinary style under the tutelage of famed Frenchman Joel Robuchon and opened this refined Asian-influenced restaurant in 1998. The brick building with a black awning boasts floral-patterned red drapes, high-backed chairs, and tables touting white tablecloths. The menu might include sweet white corn soup with basil and rock shrimp, grilled Snake River Farm “Kobe” New York steak in Cabernet Sauvignon sauce, and king crab ravioli in tomato-yuzu-pepper sauce. Most dishes are available as reduced-size tapas. On Sunday, Maison Akira features a deluxe buffet with seafood, a rib-eye carving station, and a complimentary glass of Carousel sparkling French wine.
