Since 1999, chef Michael D’Andrea has showcased his family’s 75-year-old recipes at this Staten Island-style Italian eatery in South Beach. Despite its unimpressive strip mall location, Macaluso’s is an inviting space that features an open kitchen, chalkboard daily specials, and a soundtrack of Sinatra hits. The restaurant does not accept reservations, substitutions are unheard of, and written menus do not exist (servers recite the offerings), but even stars like tennis pro Roger Federer and celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis are willing to accept the rules for signature dishes like the Sinatra Hot Shrimp and homemade meatballs.
