Meals are theatrical events at this Chinese noodle shop, where part of the fun is watching the chefs behind the counter whipping up fresh noodles. Chunks of dough are chopped, then dramatically stretched, wound, and flung to become long tendrils that end up in a wok or pot—and then in your soup bowl, with spicy pork or beef broth meat and vegetables. It's a great place to take a date and a great value too: most dishes cost around $10. (The “show” is free.)

Insider Tip: Couples should order one plate/bowl of noodles and several small appetizers to share—it's plenty.

At the newest, Stanley Park–area branch of this family-run noodle empire, owner Brock Lee stands behind the counter, wearing a baseball cap and headset and showing off his theatrical noodle-making technique.
We loved: Hand-cut noodles stir-fried with shredded pork and garlic sauce.
