Lafayette Coney Island

<p>Crowded with Formica tables that have seen better days, Lafayette Coney is a beloved institution that seems to have been in Detroit as long as its eponymous river. Waiters shout out orders of “heavy chili, chili fries!” across the room, which during lunch hours is packed with blue- and white-collar types alike. While the menu has a few other items, the only real choice is a Coney Dog: a Detroit-style wiener topped with raw onions, mustard, and chili as smooth as velvet. </p> <p><strong>Tip: </strong>Banana cream pie for dessert is a must.</p>
