La Spiaggetta
In the coastal town of Fregene, approximately 30 miles outside the center of Rome, this restaurant is a small family-owned establishment specializing in local seafood. Meaning the beach, the name La Spiaggetta is apropos as the shack-like setting — exposed wood beams, hanging surfboards and inner tubes, and ocean-blue colored tablecloths — is located directly on the beach. An attached veranda offers seating overlooking the water. Feliciano, commands the front-of-house operations, while his wife, Francesca, is the chef. Risotto with scampi, baked turbot, and stewed octopus are a few standout dishes. An adjoining coffee bar crafts quick pizzas and sandwiches for beachgoers.
