In business for a half-century, this cantina has an appealingly raucous, authentic feel, from its brightly colored Talavera tiles and blaring jukebox to its dependably tasty Mexican comfort food.
We loved: Stewed pork shank.
Insider tip: La Mascota offers abundant quantities of some of the city's best botanas (tapas), like meatballs in chile sauce, for free with drinks during lunch hour (2-5 p.m.).
