Kinich: El Sabor de Izamal

299A Calle 27
Izamal , Mexico

Named for the nearby Mayan pyramid Kinich-Kakmó, this restaurant specializes in traditional Yucatecan cuisine. The dining room is open and airy, with large windows and tall archways, but the most popular seating is outside on the thatched-roof patio. Surrounded by tropical foliage, the patio is decorated with white tablecloths, hanging lanterns, and Mayan-inspired stone carvings. In a small palapa (hut), women shape corn tortillas by hand and then cook them on a metal griddle over a wood-burning fire. The hot tortillas are then served with regional specialties like poc-chuc—sliced pork marinated in orange juice and topped with fresh salsa.
