Restaurant at the Greyhound Inn, Chalfont St. Peter
Operating since the 14th century, this former coaching inn is now a 12-room hotel and gastropub serving both British and Mediterranean cuisine. Housed in a traditional white-brick cottage, the dining room has an original flagstone floor, a low wood-beamed ceiling, and polished wood tables set with brown leather chairs. Outside, an umbrella-shaded patio provides additional seating during the warmer months. Created by Savoy alum Nana Akuffo, the eclectic menu ranges from classic steak-and-ale pie to squid ink linguini with roasted cherry tomato sauce. The international wine list has 50 options, with more than a dozen available by the glass.

Streamlined neo-bistros with talented young chefs are the latest trend in Barcelona, and this diminutive, spare white storefront is one of the best. Chef Rafael Peña uses modern, but not too avant-garde, cooking techniques to create stunning dishes like “souffléed” egg with cured ham cream.
We loved: John Dory with cockscomb, artichokes and toasted walnuts.
