Gran Caffè la Caffettiera

Formal and wood-paneled in the manner of Italy’s grand old coffee bars, and equipped with Wi-Fi in the style of the new, this is a standout in a city of excellent but fairly identical cafés. (And, embarrassingly for Romans, this is a branch of a Neapolitan coffee empire.) Being a devoutly Italian bar, la Caffettiera serves no food beyond pastries, and regulars—including dashing deputati from nearby government buildings of Palazzo Montecitorio and Palazzo Chigi—take their espresso and nips of amaro standing at the counter. The ricotta-filled sfogliatelle are the best outside of Naples.
